With the Italian Grand Prix right around the corner, it is important to note the easiest and most convenient ways to reach one of the most notable races on the Formula 1 calendar. Situated in the Royal Villa of Monza Park, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza has always been a favorite race for the drivers and fans. If you are traveling to the race yourself, or are curious of the best ways to reach the circuit, this comprehensive transportation guide will help you seamlessly plan your trip to one of the most historic races in Formula 1.
The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is situated near the city of Monza in the Royal Villa of Monza Park which is just 25km (15 mi) north of Milan. The circuit itself is placed in a woodland setting and there are actually three other tracks in the area. Conveniently, the circuit is easily reached from Milan and it is only 51km (31 mi) south of the Swiss border. Traveling by car to the Italian Grand Prix is one of the easier ways to reach the circuit. There are lots of local motorways in Monza and with GPS it is very easy to navigate. The Italian Grand prix circuit is situated roughly 25km (15 mi) from Milan and it takes about 40 minutes to drive there. Monza has many carparks that are in the vicinity of the circuit but they usually cost around 25€ per day.
It is recommended that you purchase a parking pass prior to arriving at the track which will inevitably save you time during the race weekend. Because race weekends are busy with locals and tourists, anticipate delays and more traffic than usual.
If you are traveling from a neighboring city or country, there are many convenient car rental companies in Milan. Prices for these cars vary on the company and the chosen vehicle but they usually range from around 50-170€ per day.
If you would prefer to take a taxi from Milan to the circuit, prices range from 30-45€ and the ride is about 35-40 minutes.
Traveling by train is one of the more popular modes of transportation that race goers often choose. There are two train stations located in Monza that are relatively close to Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
The Monza train station, which is roughly 5km (3 mi) from the circuit is the most popular route to take. Not only is the station close to the track, but additionally on race weekends, there are shuttle buses that will take you right to Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The train from Milan to Monza only takes about 15 minutes and ticket prices range from 2-3€. Shuttle buses will be available to take you straight from the train station to the circuit for 6€ return per day.
The other station for train travel is Biassono-Lesmo. It is about 200m from the north of the circuit and is the preferred entrance if you are in grandstands 9 - 20. The down side to this station is that it is a longer walk around the circuit to get to the Fan Zone and other activity areas. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the circuit from this station and ticket prices are also in the range of 2-5€.

If you are located in central Milan, the best bus option would be to take the metro to the stop Sesto 1 Maggio FS. From there, you can hop on the 72221 bus which will take you straight to the circuit.
When you have arrived in Monza, there are local buses that can get you to different parts of the circuit. The 204 bus travels from Monza Corso Milano and heads to Vedano al Lambro. The 221 bus also leaves from Monza Corso Milano and takes you to the Biassono entrance of the circuit.
Bus tickets are valid for one hour and cost about 2€ per ticket. You can check the Milan Public Transport website for all bus schedules and prices.
Although buses are usually a cheap and efficient way to navigate a city, it must be noted that on race weekends they are crowded and extremely busy. You can purchase tickets in person at the station, or to save time, purchase tickets ahead of time through the ATM official app.
