1. A typical race weekend is worth up to 102 total points
2. First place in the Grand Prix earns 25 points, 18 for second, 15 for third, all the way down to 1 for tenth. The bottom ten drivers get nothing
3. If the driver with the fastest lap in the GP finishes in the top 10 they earn an additional point
4. Sprint races happen three times throughout the season and are worth an additional 36 points each
5. Races cut short due to weather or other issues will have reduced point awards (or no points awards at all)
6. The driver and team with the most points at the end of the season are crown the World Championship Drivers’ Champion and Constructors’ Champion, respectively

1. Sprint races occur the day after Qualifying and are like mini versions of the Grand Prix, capped at roughly ⅓ the racing distance and with other rule adjustments
2. Race performance determines starting positions for the Grand Prix and, for the top 8 drivers, earns a share of 36 points
3. There are only 3 in 2022: Italy’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (April), the Austrian Grand Prix (July), and Brazil’s São Paulo Grand Prix (November)

1. There’s one Qualifying race per weekend, taking place after several practice rounds to determine race starting positions later that weekend
2. Qualifying doesn’t award points. They are comprised of 3 rounds, with drivers competing to set their fastest lap time each round
3. After each of the first and second rounds end, the 5 slowest drivers in that round are eliminated
4. The third and final round has the remaining 10 drivers competing just the same, with the fastest driver earning the coveted pole position title
5. The pole position driver generally starts the Grand Prix from the front of the grid, also known as P1, with all other drivers slotted behind them based on their lap times
6. On Sprint weekends, Qualifying is used to set the starting grid for the Sprint race instead of for the Grand Prix

1. Grand Prix races take place at the end of every race weekend, after free practice, Qualifying and, when applicable, Sprint races
2. These long and taxing event last up to 2 hours and cover 190 miles, with special requirements for tires and pit stops
3. Driver starting grid positions are generally determined based on their Qualifying performance
4. These races award significant points: 101 points are up for grabs amongst the top 10 drivers, with an additional point available to the driver with the fastest lap time
